Lorraine Smith: Founder
Creator of TeachAbout

I'm Lorraine Smith and I'm on a mission to provide high-quality support and mentoring to SENCOs and trainee / early career teachers (ECTS).

My Batchelor's degree was in Primary Education and French. I also have a Masters degree in Special and Inclusive Education from the Institute of Education (UCL).

| worked for over 20 years across both primary and secondary schools and in mainstream and special

school settings. My specialisms are SEN, French (MFL) and English/literacy across all key stages. I have

experience in many additional areas of the primary curriculum including music, cooking and global education.

I have been subject co-ordinator for each of the above and became a Key Stage co-ordinator, transitions manager, SENCO and Assistant Head Teacher before moving into the advisory service and then on into the university sector where I have spent a further 10 years delivering specialised SEN courses and initial teacher training at both batchelor (BA/BEd) and Masters (PGCE and NASENCO) level.

Mentoring and training in a way that enables new-to-career practitioners to develop the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to excel and thrive in their posts is my passion.

I started my business TeachAbout® after becoming frustrated at the lack of time allocated to mentoring which I believe is the key to succeeding and thriving in the job!

In my experience, support which simply delivers more knowledge without a clear path to implementation leads to struggle and overwhelm.

I have the experience to guide you in time-efficient and effective ways to develop your skills including bespoke approaches which synthesise the wealth of content out there and present you with just the key elements to enable you to excel in evidence-based practice.
